A short film by Sylvia Morgado (2020, 2″55′)

TODAY is my first (very) short film, a poetic narrative of self-isolation, entirely produced by me at home during the lockdown for @TheMandyNetwork #mandyhomemoviefest
I had fun in the past two weeks wandering around the flat, staring through the windows, capturing endless images, colours and sounds.
First pallet was red and its hues, followed by yellows and greens inspired by my daily avocados, and my loyal Imperial typewriter.
Arts keeps me going! What about you, how is your creative flow during the lockdown?
Here is the link for the film on instagram:
I hope you’ll enjoy it! Feel free to like & share the post on instagram with friends.
Let’s keep connected!

“Troca-Troca” exhibition & party on Friday 16th Dec

After an amazing Sunday exchanging ideas, books and making new art and friends, the next stop is… Troca-Troca exhibition, on Friday 16th of  Dec, from 5pm-until late, at The Stash Gallery at Vout-o-Reenees.

And again you’re very welcome to join us!

This exhibition is the result of a rich and inspiring exchange with fellow artist and poet Alice Hsieh.

We have met during a book club in early 2015 and since then we have been exchanging ideas about poetry and art, and giving each other feedback.

During this period, Alice wrote a series of poems, published in a bilingual (English-Portuguese) format, which have been developed into video and Spoken Word performances, while I have been working on a series of texts and interactive art installations, some of them already known to some of you.

We look forward to having you with us to celebrate our passion for books, words and poetry!

ICT + Art Connect / Comic Strip App

12 May

We had a great time in Brussels delivering our app “Comic Strip”, the result of our four months residency with Wiki-Art.

Back to October 2013, our group met at the ICT + Art Connect Hackathon in Nantes. An adventure… 24h non-stop – apart from a few naps – creating the concept of Magic Drawing.

We were awarded in the Wiki-Art Challenge and we were later offered a residency to develop the project. Another big challenge, as my colleges are based in Nantes and I’m in London!

BRUSSELS MAY 14 – ICT + Art Connect – Final Event

After many emails exchange and Skype calls, finally we went to Brussels to show the result of our hard work!

On Sunday May 11th our group was part of the exhibition at FoAM with artists and technologists across Europe showcasing their ideas and works.

On Monday 12th we presented our project at the Charlemagne Building/ European Commission along with all the residents. It was followed by panels of discussions on the European trends of the bringing togheter of arts and technology, exploring new collaborative ways of working.

Artists/ designers/ ICT/Science professionals: Marie Lamouret, Félix Lepoutre, Richard Piron, Sylvia Morgado & Victor Pedraza

This collaboration between artists and technologists from Nantes and London enables the creation of interactive tablet based drawings: a mobile application that facilitates the co-creation of a collaborative visual comic strip through drawings made by different users.

The aim of the project is to encourage the creation of collaborative artworks and the forming of new social networks.

Lost Soles @ London Design Festival

12 Sep

Visit Lost Soles pop-up gallery to see my new work inspired by Vinicius de Moraes’ song “Samba of the Blessing”, in which I transformed a pair of flip flops found in Shoreditch.

See, listen, feel… Next to my shoes, a CD player will amuse your ears with this and other of his Bossa Nova songs.

Lost Soles is inspired by twitter @abandonedshoes, and it is part of the London Design Festival, running from the 14th to the 22nd of September.

The works are going to online auction and the charity I’ve chosen to donate the funds raised for mine is PYE Global, which also works with Brazil. I’ll publish the link here as soon as it’s on!

Along with the showcase, the Lost Soles theatre will present ten short plays inspired by a photo twitter feed, imagining who their wearers were and how they came to lose their soles.

Hoping for more encounters in life…
